Doctor in Didimoticho expels the Western Thrace Turk from the hospital!

09.11.2017
As ABTTF we condemn this racist and discriminative behavior not complying with Hippocrates Oath and professional dignity of a doctor whose fundamental assignment is to treat people, and demand that the right to health and medical care of each member of the Turkish community in Western Thrace, Greece, which is one of the basic human rights, is respected.

A doctor with Greek origin commissioned at Didimoticho State Hospital in Evros, Greece expelled spouse of Süleyman Macır, President of Didimoticho Muslims Education and Culture Association, who went to the hospital with the complaint of high fever. According to the news in the daily Birlik, spouse of Macır, who fell ill at home, was hospitalized to Didimoticho State Hospital due to high fever, and put under observation by the doctor to conduct the necessary checks. Later in the day following the shift change, the obstetrician and gynecologist, who took over the shift, expelled the spouse of Macır telling her: “Who accepted you into the hospital? Now it’s my shift and I won’t examine you, your people are always like this, you shouldn’t be here. Sign this document and leave here”. Upon this behavior, Macır directly went to see the director of the hospital and filed complaint about the behavior of the woman doctor against them. The hospital director listened to Macır carefully and indicated Macır is right, and stated he would help to overcome the problem. Afterwards, it was discovered this doctor has always behaved likewise against the persons belonging to the Turkish community in Western Thrace.

As the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF), we condemn this racist and discriminative behavior not complying with Hippocrates Oath and professional dignity of a doctor whose fundamental assignment is to treat people and wish fast recovery to the spouse of Süleyman Macır, President of Didimoticho Muslims Education and Culture Association. The Greek origin doctor has betrayed her profession and dared to despise her patient just because of her ethnicity. We hope that legal proceeding would start immediately about this racist doctor at Didimoticho State Hospital, and demand that the right to health and medical care of each member of the Turkish community in Western Thrace, Greece, which is one of the basic human rights, is respected, and that the Greek authorities take of the issue as required.
