ABTTF President: “The FEP Party is the party of our community, and it is the Turks who voted for it and made it the first party in the prefectures of Rodopi and Xanthi. Our party’s last election success has once again confirmed this fact, despite all our country’s denial policy. If our Prime Minister, who nominated an Albanian citizen from his party because he is Greek, thinks that he will escape the truth by ignoring the election success of the FEP Party, he is extremely mistaken’’.
Fredi Beleri, a member of the Greek minority living in Albania, who was nominated by New Democracy (ND) in the European Parliament (EP) elections held in Greece on 9 June 2024 and was elected as an MEP, sent a message from the prison where he is detained.
Beleri, who was elected Mayor of Himara in the local elections held on 14 May 2023 in Albania but received a prison sentence on charges of active corruption in the elections, thanked all citizens who voted for him in his message, referring to their struggle for the principles and values that should be shared by everyone who wants to take part in the European acquis and the European family.
“The ruling party of our country is nominating a person who is serving a prison sentence for corruption in local elections just because he belongs to the Greek minority in Albania in the EP elections, and this person has been elected as an MEP. On the other hand, the electoral success of the FEP Party, which was the clear winner in the prefectures of Rodopi and Xanthi in the EP elections with the votes of Western Thrace Turks who are EU citizens, is criticised in politics and mainstream media, and the ruling party’s leaders, especially our Prime Minister, are trying to find a cover for the electoral failures in Western Thrace. The FEP Party is the party of our community, and it is the Turks who voted for it and made it the first party in the prefectures of Rodopi and Xanthi. Our party’s last election success has once again confirmed this fact, despite all our country’s denial policy.
