ABTTF President Halit Habipoğlu: Among measures to prevent the extremism Golden Dawn spreads throughout the country, the government shall consider options to cut state funding and ban the political party

The neo-Nazi political party Golden Dawn opposes to construction of a mosque in Athens. As re-ported by AFP, Golden Dawn party spokesperson Ilias Kasidiaris said “If a mosque is constructed for Islamist criminals in Greece, a front of 100,000 Greeks headed by Golden Dawn will be cre-ated”.

The concerns are rising Golden Dawn’s fierce opposition to the construction of mosque will esca-late tension between the two parties in Greece, Muslims and the Golden Dawn. A week ago, a threatening letter bearing Golden Dawn symbol was sent to the Muslim Association of Greece. The letter warned Muslims in Greece to shut down their businesses and leave the country until 30 June 2013. It furthermore threatened Muslims to be “slaughtered like chickens on the road” unless they comply with the memo. The threat letter included harsh and insulting statements on Islam religion and Muslims.

Polis detected that the letter was posted from the central post office in Athens. Still, the sender(s) of the letter could not have been identified yet. Golden Dawn, having secured 18 seats in last national elections in Greece held in June 2012, denied the letter.

Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF) President Halit Habipoğlu notes Greek government: “Ultra-right neo-Nazi political party Golden Dawn has reached to a popularity as to threaten all Muslims living in the country. Yet, another threat on leading an upheaval upon construc-tion of a mosque for Muslims living in the same country is not comprehensible. Upon these extremist memos, the government shall urgently undertake measures, including cutting off state funds and banning the party.”
