Response to the letter of ABTTF by Thorbjørn Jagland, Secretary General of the European Council

Thorbjørn Jagland, Secretary General of the European Council, responded to the letter of the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF) on violation by Greece of the right of the Western Thrace Turks for selecting their own religious leader and parallel to this within a historical perspective the recent developments experienced regarding the problem of mufti. Secretary General Jagland in his response letter stated he has taken note with great interest of the detailed information regarding the current situation of the Turkish community in Western Thrace conveyed to him by ABTTF and informed he will share ABTTF’s letter with the relevant services of the European Council for consideration in their own work on these issues.

In its letter of 8 March 2017, ABTTF had articulated in detail the emergence of the problem of mufti of the Turkish community in Western Thrace within historical process and sent it along with the chronology related to the emergence of the problem of mufti to the Secretary General Jagland.
